Configure marker clustering

Clustering replaces nearby visible markers with a numbered cluster at lower zoom levels. Zooming in separates the cluster back into individual Store markers. It does not merge Stores, alter coordinates, or change search results.

Set the site default​

Open Store Locator → Settings → Map:

  1. enable Cluster markers;
  2. click Cluster style and choose a visual preset;
  3. set Cluster color;
  4. save and test a locator containing many nearby Stores.

Available styles are Soft halo, Solid circle, Ring, Rounded square, Gradient, Outline, Frosted glass, Frosted rings, Stacked bubbles, and Pin.

Override clustering for one Layout​

Edit the Layout, select its Map widget, and configure clustering in that widget. A widget value overrides Settings → Map only for that saved Layout. This is useful when a national locator needs clusters but a small campus locator needs individual pins immediately.

Choose when to disable it​

Disable clustering when the Layout contains a small, known number of Stores and seeing every pin is more valuable than reducing visual density. Keep it enabled for national datasets, dense cities, or mobile maps where dozens of overlapping click targets become unusable.

Clusters versus exact overlapping markers​

Two Stores with identical latitude and longitude remain on the same point after a cluster expands. Clustering cannot visually separate identical coordinates. Slightly adjust one marker position in the Store editor as described in Handle Stores at the same address.

If clustering appears not to work​

  • Confirm the public page uses the Layout whose Map widget you edited.
  • Test at a low zoom with at least two markers close enough to group.
  • Check whether the Map widget disables the Settings default.
  • Confirm Stores have valid, non-zero coordinates.
  • Check the browser Network panel for the locally bundled cluster library: Google uses googlemaps-markerclusterer; Leaflet uses leaflet.markercluster.
  • Clear page/CDN caches after changing a saved Layout.

Cluster color affects the preset SVG. It does not recolor the individual Store markers beneath the cluster.
